President's Ponderings December 2016
Firstly I wish to thank all those who voted for me to be your next President. I am extremely honoured by your faith in me. I have a hard act to follow in Paul Reading, but I will do my best.
I am saddened that this honour has come about by the resignation of Paul due to ill health. Paul has been one of those people who would always give advice, help obtain birds or eggs, and generally be an all round good guy. Thank you Paul for everything you have done for the Dutch Bantam Club over the many years you have been a member.
Another honour given to me was the presentation of the trophy for the Best Black, in memory of ‘Hutch’, another really nice person who I personally had a great regard for, not least because he once told me that my Dexter beef was the best beef he had ever tasted. Obviously a most discerning man!! Jos Parsons is a worthy winner of the trophy. I shall hope to challenge him next year so look out Jos, this matriarch (as Simon has christened me) is not finished yet.
With the new committee it should be onwards and upwards for the club.
I think we have a really good and efficient Secretary and Treasurer in Simon Patel. Richard has done an excellent job but it should be remembered he only took the job as no one else was prepared to do it. He has been extremely efficient and I have enjoyed working with him. Enjoy time with your family now Richard.
Alan Brown will make a good Chairman. He has supported the club 100%, even when he was not showing. The members decided they wanted changes in the management of the club. This always happens at some point whatever type of pastime you are involved in. I think they have chosen well.
My thanks to James for the years he has put in, and to Priscilla who bravely took over from me as Secretary and did such a good job with help from the young, Olivia, Rosie and Jos. I am sure they will continue to be heavily involved in the breeding and showing of their birds. Good to have two of the family on the committee still.
Time I stopped before this becomes ramble, it’s what the old do best it seems! Please, if I can be of any help to anyone just contact me.

Voice from the Chair.....
Welcome to all of the Dutch Club members to 2017.
Firstly I must give a thank you to all previous officers for their hard work and commitment to the Dutch bantam Club. Congratulations to Chris Compton in becoming our new president. She is a very experienced stock person and has been involved in poultry breed clubs for a long time, I think Chris is perfect for the role.
Well done also to Simon on becoming our Secretary. I have known him for many years and together we run Syston poultry shows. He is the secretary at Syston and is excellent at his job and I know you are very lucky to have him on board.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to chair your Club, I will try my best to assist all officers, committee members and club members in moving the club forward and taking in to account everyone’s ideas and thoughts. I am always willing to listen and give advice on Dutch bantams and poultry keeping in general so please any time, feel free to give me a call. 2017 has got off to a bad start regarding the current avian influenza situation. Please stick with your birds, hatch as normal and hopefully shows will return in the near future.
Good luck with your breeding and hopefully I will see you all around the shows,
ALAN BROWN

Secretaries Sayings…January 2017
Dear Members of The Dutch Bantam Club, Current, New and Old.
2017 brings a few changes to The Dutch Bantam Club and with it, I Simon Patel taking on the role of Secretary/Treasurer. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of our members for your support and contribution over the years and hope that you will continue to do so with me at the helm.
With the current ban on poultry gatherings and movement it is unfortunate that we can't be out showing our beloved Dutch Bantams but I hope everyone is taking the time to consider breeding pens for the year and maybe even putting the birds together?
May I thank everyone who has paid their 2017 membership subs already, it is greatly appreciated. If anyone wishes to pay their 2017 subs they can do this by Cash, Cheque or PayPal. All details can be found on the club website www.dutchbantamclub.co.uk or contact me on 07826 525810, or alternatively email me on dbcmembership@hotmail.com with any club related questions.
That's enough from me for now. I look forward to seeing you all around the shows, please feel free to come and introduce yourselves and have a chat. Happy Hatching!
